For the past 10 years, I've journaled religiously.
And for the past few years, I've worked with re-creating these journals, all of the pages and words and stuff that felt really important or intense or like a waste at the time of writing.
Everything in existence have always been, it's just a matter of how things are put together. Stuff fall apart, and then something else is created. I like to work with materials that once was something, to create something else. I have named this project after a reality I want to bring into being.
MATRIARKATET is an alter ego, a nom de guerre, a project, a dream, a way to find me if you want to find me, or people like me, perhaps.
MATRIARKATET (2021 - ongoing)
: repurposed journalpages
I came up with the idea to use old journal-pages for paste-ups in 2021. I wanted to challenge myself to show the things I want to hide. My deepest and most uncensored thoughts and feelings that pour out of me every day, what would happen if I pasted them up on the streets for anyone to see?
It was getting too cold for some of my unsanctioned art practices in the streets with the old journals. I wanted to try to work more with shapes, after some experiments working with yarn, embroidering some of my sort-of-stencils characters onto some very basic tapestry I made. I enjoy the slight construction this allows me, and the tactile experience of handling it. So I thought about papier-mâché. I have never tried it before, and I found that I really enjoyed the process. I wanted to make nesting dolls. I guess the symbolism is quite obvious, but I just couldn't resist it.
